David Burliuk


 

David Burliuk (18821967) was a Ukrainian painter, book illustrator, publicist, author. David Burliuk was born in Semirotovchina, brother of W.Burliuk. From 1898 to 1904 he studied at the Art School Kasan in Odessa, as well as the Art College there and at the Royal Academy in Munich. In 1908 was the exhibition with the group "The Link" (Zveno) in Kiev organized by David Burliuk together with Baranoff-Rossine, Bogomazov, W.Burliuk and Ekster. From 1911 to 1913 he studied at the Moscow School for Painting, Architecture and Sculpture (MUZHZV).In 1911 he participated in the exhibition of the "Blaue Reiter" in Munich, together with W.Bupliuk among others. From 1918 to 1922 he traveled to the USA via Siberia, Japan and Canada.In 1925 David Burliuk was a co-founder of the "Association of Revolutionary Masters of Ukraine" (ARMU) with the members: Bogomazov, Yermilov, Meller, Khvostenko-Khvostov and Palmov. From 1930 to 1966 he worked as a publisher of the magazine "Colour and Rhythm". David Burliuk died on Long Island, New York.
