David Axelrod (musician)
David Axelrod (born April 17, 1936) is a very versatile musician. He was a largely self-taught classical musician known for use of drums and incorporation of different styles. In the 1950s he recorded some Jazz initially becoming famous for his work with Cannonball Adderley, Lou Rawls, and the Electric Prunes. He later came into his own, creating and producing his own albums. His work as arranger and composer was rediscovered in the late 1990s as many of his songs had been sampled by the likes of DJ Shadow, Lauryn Hill, and Dr. Dre.

David Axelrod appeared at the Royal Festival Hall on the 17th March 2004 as part of the Ether festival where he conducted a one off performance of his solo work. He was joined on stage by Richard Ashcroft. At the end of this rare concert he informed the audience that he was suffering from ill health. Audio and video were professionally recorded but have yet to be released.
