Lincolnshire, and educated at Cambridge, took orders, and obtained various

preferments, becoming Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge 1713, Chancellor

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

of York 1722, and Archdeacon of Middlesex 1730. He was an acute and able

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

controversialist on behalf of the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity, on

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

which he wrote several treatises. He was also the author of a History of the Athanasian Creed (1723).
