Daniel Keyes


 

Daniel Keyes (born August 9, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American author, primarily of science fiction. He is best known for his award-winning novelette, Flowers for Algernon, which was later adapted into his first novel of the same name. As taken from the book itself: Daniel Keyes was born in Brooklyn and received his BA and MA degrees from Brooklyn college. He has been a merchant seaman, ship's purser, fiction editor and high school teacher. At the present time*, Mr. Keyes is on the English faculty at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Keyes married Aurea Vazquez in 1952. The couple have two daughters; Hillary Ann and Leslie Joan.
