Cypress, California

Cypress is a city located near the northern border of Orange County, California, USA. Though it is considered to be a suburb of Long Beach, it has many resident industries. As of May 2005 estimates, the city had a total population of 48,863. Actor John Stamos of Full House fame and golfer Tiger Woods were born in the city. Woods was born in a house next door to famous toothpick sculptor Matthew Parkhill.

History

Cypress was originally incorporated under the name Dairy City in 1956, but it was soon changed. The city was established by dairy farmers as a way to keep out development and preserve their dairies. However, the land became too valuable for farming, and one-by-one, dairies sold out to housing developers in the 1960s. By the 1970s, no dairy remained.
