The word means round eye. The plural is Cyclopes (pronounced SIE klo peez). The plural can also be spelled as Kyklop?s. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ There were two generations of Cyclopes. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ These Cyclopes were the children of Uranus and Gaia. They were giants with a single eye in the middle of their forehead and a foul disposition. According to Hesiod, they were strong, stubborn, and "abrupt of emotion". Their names eventually became synonyms for strength and power, and were used to signify especially well crafted weapons.
