This story revolves around the residents of the fictional town of Tarker's Mills, which is being terrorized by a werewolf who, unbeknownst to the townfolk, is in fact the local Reverend, Lester Lowe. The werewolf strikes once each month, usually on or very near to a holiday, beginning on Christmas and ending exactly one year later. King admits in the book's introduction that liberty is taken with calendar placement to line up full moons with major holidays.
