Culver Academies


 

The Culver Academies were founded under their original name of Culver Military Academy by Henry Harrison Culver in 1894 in Culver, Indiana as an all-boys school. Coeducational since 1971, it is a boarding school featuring a broad college preparatory curriculum in science, mathematics, history, political science and language education studies which are very well rounded and highly advanced. The boys continue to be organized in a military academy using a cadet system, while the girls are part of an English prefect system.

Culver, as the students call it, is one of the most selective boarding schools in the United States.

The Culver Academies are two separate schools sharing the same campus. The boys' school is known as Culver Military Academy, or CMA, and the girls' school as Culver Girls Academy, or CGA. The Girls Academy has 7 dorms and the Military Academy 8 units, divided into three battalions which form the regiment, or the Corps. The boys are separated into three artillery units (Batteries A, B, and C), three infantry units (A, B, and C), one cavalry Troop, and the Band.

T.A.C. Officers are actual military personel which lead and help the boys in the military aspect of life.

Culver offers excellent equestrienne and horsemanship programs. The Black Horse Troop is one of the nation's foremost elite horsemanship groups for high school students and is usually invited to participate in the Presidential Inaguration Parade.

The Culver Academies is owned by Culver Educational Foundation, or CEF. The CEF is a board of trustees who assure the school's ability to continue educating young people.
