Cryptopsy

Cryptopsy is a Quebecois brutal, technical Death Metal quintet from Montreal, Quebec. Originally they were known as Necrosis when they started in 1992, but changed their name to Cryptopsy in the same year. The next year (1993) they recorded and released their only demo titled Ungentle Exhumation. In 1994 they released their debut album under the name Blasphemy Made Flesh.

The band's 1996 release, None So Vile, is considered to be a landmark technical Death Metal album, and helped mark the way of the music's development and chaotic style. After this album and the supporting tour, their singer Lord Worm left and was replaced by Mike DiSalvo, who used a rather different style. Cryptopsy drew praise and criticism alike for their change of singers. The release of Whisper Supremacy in 1998 showcased this style change as well as their stylistic focus on odd on and off-time signatures. This style change was carried further on the 2000 album ... And Then You'll Beg. DiSalvo departed the band after this album and its tour. The style of his replacement, Martin Lacroix, held the middle somewhere between DiSalvo's and Lord Worm's style. His short stay with the band can be heard on the 2003 live-album None So Live. In late 2003, he was replaced by returning original singer Lord Worm. Currently, the band has recorded a new album, Once Was Not, to be released October 18 2005.

Cryptopsy now stands to be considered a defining point of extreme music's proficiency in technique and originality, taking in diverse elements of music for influence and pushing forward a creative vision that remains extreme.

Flo Mounier is exceptionally well-known throughout the extreme music community as well as other musical communities for his relentless and technically proficient style. He has done a number of art shows showcasing his talents, as well as being on a number of TV shows.

Cryptopsy is currently beginning a tour with Suffocation, Despised Icon, and Aborted. It was also announced on September 28 that the second guitarist for this tour will be Christian Donaldson of Mythosis.
