Croydon
Croydon is a major suburban town and commercial centre situated 9.5 miles (15.3 km) south of Charing Cross and the principal town in the London Borough of Croydon.
Status
Croydon was created a municipal borough of Surrey in 1883. In 1889, through its growing economic importance, it was made a county borough exempt from county administration. In 1965 the county borough was abolished and Croydon and Coulsdon and Purley Urban District formed the London Borough of Croydon.
