Creepy Crawlers

Creepy Crawlers were made by the Mattel company and later by the Toymax company. They were a variation on the toy Incredible Edibles in which a plastic like gel was squeezed from a tube onto a metal form. The form was then placed in an oven heated by an electric light bulb and allowed to bake. The form was then removed from the oven allowed to cool and the plastic bugs were then peeled out and the excess bits trimmed. The primary difference between Incredible Edibles and Creepy Crawlers was that Incredible Edibles were supposedly food, although those who tasted them may not always have requested seconds.

An earlier (and less safe) version of this toy (made by Mattel) was heated by a small hot plate, designed to hold a single mold. The heating unit was called a Thingmaker. The liquid plastic was called Plastigoop. The mold had to be cooled in a tray of water before the newly molded plastic pieces could be removed.
