Cornell University is a leading research university based in Ithaca, New York. The youngest of the Ivy League universities, Cornell was founded in 1865 by Ezra Cornell, a self-made businessman involved in the formation of the Western Union Telegraph Company {{ref|EzraCornell}}, and Andrew Dickson White, a respected scholar and politician. With an initial enrollment of 412 students, the university's opening day ceremonies were held on October 7, 1868.{{ref|OpeningDay}} Current undergraduate enrollment is now over 13,500, the largest of any Ivy League university.{{ref|Enrollment}}
