Before forming Sleater-Kinney, Corin played in Heavens to Betsy, an influential Riot Grrl band who recorded a split single with Bratmobile, a couple of other singles for independent record labels and an LP, Calculated. Heavens to Betsy frequently played shows with Excuse 17, for whom Carrie Brownstein played guitar and sang, and the two bands both appeared on the compilation LP Free To Fight. The two women began playing together and this led to the formation of Sleater-Kinney. The band went through a slew of drummers before meeting Janet Weiss prior to recording "Dig Me Out," and Weiss has been with Sleater-Kinney ever since.
