Copenhagen was subject to the first city bombing ever to have taken place in human history. This occurred in 1807 when the English fleet attacked the Danes because of their positive disposition towards Napoleon. The city was bombarded by English war vessels, resulting in the destruction of numerous buildings and general turmoil. Some of the old buildings in Copenhagen are said to contain cannon balls, from the bombardment, within their walls.
