It is located in northern Coos County. In addition to the town of Coos Bay, the town of North Bend is located along the bay. The Coos River enters the bay from the east, descending from the Coastal Range. The bay and the towns along it have formed one of the most important ports throughout the history of the state, especially for timber from the surrounding forest regions.
