Contract of Bloemfontein
The Bloemfontein Convention was an 1854 meeting of representatives of the Boers and the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom renounced any claim to the area between the Orange and Vaal Rivers. The Orange Free State, an independent Boer Republic, was founded with its capital there in Bloemfontein.
