Constituent Assembly of India
The Constituent Assembly of India was formed to write the constitution of India, and served as its first parliament as an independent nation. It first met on December 9 1946, while India was still under British rule. On August 15 1947, India became an independent nation, and the Constituent Assembly became India's parliament. It sat until January 26 1950, when the Constitution of India took effect. At this point, the Constituent Assembly became the Provisional Parliament of India, until the first elections under the new constitution took place in 1952.
