Conservative Party of Norway
The Conservative Party (Høyre or Høgre, H, meaning "right") is a Norwegian political party. Founded in 1884, it is Norway's second oldest party. The first chairman of the party was Emil Stang, and the current leader (since 2004) is Erna Solberg. Høyre are currently the largest and most influential party in the executive branch of the Norwegian government, although the cabinet is made up of a coalition between Høyre, Kristelig Folkeparti (who have the Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik) and Venstre. Høyre are committed to traditional right-wing policies, including tax cuts, little government involvement in the economy (their social policies are much more liberal, however, with the party's program openly supporting gay adoption rights, among other things), and are also in favour of Norwegian membership in the European Union - however, this goal has been temporarily abandoned because of the co-operation with Kristelig Folkeparti, which is moderately eurosceptical.
