The Catfish took their current name in 2004, after moving to Columbus from Albany, Georgia, where they were known as the South Georgia Waves. The team originally played in Wilmington, North Carolina when they and the Lexington Legends were expansion teams in 2001, where they were known as the Wilmington Waves, but left after its inaugural season (2001) due to a lack of a permanent stadium. They currently play home games at Golden Park.
