College of William and Mary
The College of William and Mary in Virginia is a public, liberal-arts university located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Founded in 1693 and named in honor of King William III and Queen Mary II, it is the second-oldest university in the United States (Harvard, founded in 1638, is the oldest). At the request of the House of Burgesses and the Reverend Dr. James Blair, the commissary (or representative) of the Church of England in Virginia, it was founded in the Virginia Colony in 1693 by royal charter issued by the monarchs of England.

In 1993, William and Mary opened Tercentenary Hall to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Royal Charter. This building would later be renamed under a flurry of protest to McGlothlin-Street Hall, in recognition of the McGlothlin and Street Families' contributions to the institution. McGlothlin-Street Hall is home to the following departments: Applied Sciences, Geology and Computer Science.

William and Mary is involved in many projects around Williamsburg and Virginia. For example, the College's Center for Conservation Biology operates an award-winning project with peregrine falcons. In conjunction with several state agencies, ideal nesting sites are maintained on towers at some of Virginia's high-elevation bridges (such as the Benjamin Harrison Bridge on the James River, and the George P. Coleman Bridge on the York River, among others). Breeding pairs and chicks are monitored and tracked with GPS equipment. Some are relocated to areas in the Virginia mountains where they had become endangered. The VA Falcons website allows Internet users to view webcams of nests and track the movements of individual birds.
