Colleen has become a celebrity in her own right, regularly appearing in the tabloids amidst accusations of doing nothing but shopping all day and taking frequent holidays to sunny locations. Viewed by some as a quintissential "footballer's wife", Colleen has her own column in the celebrity magazine Closer entitled "Welcome to My World".

Colleen caused some controversy by being chosen to appear on the front of British Vogue. Some people felt that she was unworthy of such an honour. Editor Alexandra Shulman defended the magazine's decision, calling Colleen "beautiful" and praising her "brilliant sense of style".
