Collectivisation in the USSR

In the Soviet Union, collectivisation was a policy introduced in the late 1920s, of consolidation of individual land and labour into co-operatives called collective farms (Russian: ??????, kolkhoz) and state farms (sovkhozes). This policy had the goals of increasing agricultural production, putting agriculture under the control of the state, as well as an important political goal, a step towards communism: the transfer of land and agricultural property from kulaks to collectives of peasants.
