A Harvard sociologist and anthropologist of the first half of the twentieth century, Clyde Kluckhohn, (1905-1960), advocated "cross-cultural values," values that are in common across all cultures (e.g., the prohibition against wanton killing of members of the "in-group" in any societal/ethnic structure).
