From their debut album, Love, Life, and Pain, which showed up in 1988, they scored four consecutive hits from it. "Jealousy", "Situation #9", a remake of Bill Withers' "Lean on Me", and "Why You Treat Me So Bad". The second two both made it to #2 on the r&b charts that year. Foster and McElroy left Club Nouveau at that same time to form their own group and focus on producing for other acts, Pratter left the group as well. The replacements were David Agent and Kevin Irving. The group's next albums weren't as successful, and the last album that they made was on the Tommy Boy/Warner Bros. label. It didn't maintain its momentum and ultimately they disbanded.
