Clanricarde
Clanricarde was both a territory and a title - The Clanricarde used to describe the Burkes of what is now Co. Galway, Ireland. The territory stretched from the barony of Clare in the north-west along the borders of Co. Mayo, to the River Shannon in the east. Subservient territories included Hy-Many, Kinela, de Bermingham's Country, Siol Anmchada and southern Sil Muirdeagh.

The head of the family took the title Clanricarde, which described the genealogical descent of the family from Richard de Burgh, illegitimate son of William de Burgh. In 1543 the then Clanricarde was created Earl of Clanricarde by Henry VIII.
