Claire Merritt Hodgson


 

Claire Merritt Hodgson (September 11, 1897 - October 25, 1976) is most famous for being the second wife of baseball player Babe Ruth. Born near Athens, Georgia, Hodgson and Ruth met in 1923, when Ruth was still married to Helen Woodford. Woodford died in a house fire in January of 1929, and Ruth and Hodgson got married on April 17, 1929, staying together until Ruth's death in 1948.
