Cindy 'Mac' MacKenzie

Cindy 'Mac' MacKenzie is a fictional character on the UPN television series, Veronica Mars, which debuted during the fall 2004 season. She is portrayed by Tina Majorino.

Mac has recurred several times in the show. Many parallels can be drawn between this character and the character of Willow on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Mac uses her computer hacking and cracking skills to help Veronica with her cases. Note that in-series, the name "Mac" is short for her last name, though it might have been chosen by the writers to refer to her Apple Macintosh enthusiasm.

True to the show's spirit of moral grey areas, in the episode where Mac is introduced, she helps Veronica find out who broke into a purity test site—a site she created to earn enough money to buy a new car. Like Veronica, Mac uses an Apple Powerbook. Mac vehemently defends the OS X operating system (in the episode "Weapons of Class Destruction") in an argument with an Ubuntu Linux fan. Mac has always felt she did not belong in her family; Veronica discovered that Mac was switched at birth with Madison Sinclair. Since the mistake was only uncovered four years later, the parents decided to keep the children—and a handsome cash settlement from the hospital.
