The Slant 6 is one of Chrysler's two most famous automobile engines, along with the Chrysler Hemi engine. The engine is a straight-6 piston engine designed so the cylinder line is at a 30-degree angle from vertical. In essence, the Slant 6 is half of a 60-degree V12. In other words, the engine is designed to be slanted, not slanted after the fact like the Honda S2000 and BMW M6.

The engine was introduced in 1960 on the Valiant, and was used in USA until 1983 in cars, 1987 in trucks, and 1991 for marine use. It was still being built in Mexico as of 2003.

The Slant 6 gained a reputation for indestructibility, and it also proved to have good performance for such a relatively small engine (by contemporary North American standards), although the factory-equipped single-barrel carburetor fitted to most cars did not allow the engine to reach its full potential.
