In November 2004 Parker hit the headlines in the UK because it was revealed he had attempted suicide by slashing his wrists. It had been alleged by The Sun (a tabloid newspaper) that he had paid a girl to claim that she had slept with him, in an attempt to dispel rumours which alleged that he might be gay. Chris denied this. Parker took leave from EastEnders, and he subsequently left his employment in that capacity entirely of his own volition. Parker won his legal action against The Sun in September 2005.
