Christian Goldbach


 

Christian Goldbach (March 18, 1690 - November 20, 1764), was a Prussian mathematician, who was born in Königsberg, Prussia, as son of a pastor. Goldbach studied law and mathematics. He traveled widely throughout Europe and met with many famous mathematicians, such as Leibniz, Leonhard Euler, and Nicholas I Bernoulli. Goldbach went to work at the newly opened St Petersburg Academy of Sciences and became tutor to the later Tsar Peter II.
