Christa Luding-Rothenburger or Christa Rothenburger-Luding was born on December 4, 1959 in East Germany.

She was a speed skater and cyclist who earned the distinction of being the first and only person to win Summer and Winter Olympic medals in the same year (1988). At the Winter Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada she won the gold medal in the 1000-metre speed-skating event; she then earned the silver medal in the 1000-metre sprint cycling at the Summer Games in Seoul, South Korea.
