Chris Benoit

name=Chris Benoit

Trivia

  • Had first child with Nancy Daus-Sullivan together on February25, 2000, a son named Daniel Christopher Benoit.
  • When he was in WCW, he had a real-life affair with Nancy Sullivan, who was the wife of Kevin Sullivan at the time. A legitimate feud with Kevin Sullivan started when he found out about the affair. Since Sullivan was also one of WCW's bookers at the time, as revenge he made sure Benoit did not win any titles. Mainly because of this, The Radicalz left WCW for WWF in early 2000.
  • Because of how often he defended his WWF Intercontinental Title, Chris Benoit has been called the "fightingest" Intercontinental Champion in WWF history.
  • Underwent major neck surgery in July 2001 after a wrestling match with X-Pac where he suffered a botched X-Factor.
  • Has a son, David, from a previous relationship and a daughter, Megan, from his ex-wife.
  • Idolized The Dynamite Kid, Tommy Billington growing up, and stylized himself after him. When he began wrestling, he wrestled as "Dynamite" Chris Benoit, as a tribute to the Kid. He also began using the Diving Headbutt, one of the Kid's trademark moves.
  • He 'won' the WWF Title on two occasions, once at Fully Loaded and once at Unforgiven 2000. However, both times the decision was over-ruled and he had yet to win a WWE title officially until he won the World Heavyweight Championship WrestleMania XX. To date, he has not won the WWE title.
  • He is the only man (so far) to retain a title in an Iron Man match.
  • Benoit is one of only two men to enter at #1 and win the Royal Rumble (Shawn Michaels was the first), and he now holds the record for being in a Rumble match the longest (over 61 minutes, surpassing Bob Backlund's record of slightly over an hour, while Shawn Michaels' Rumble win was at 38:37).
  • Despite the storyline that he is often "passed over" for titles, Benoit is the only man who has won every major WWF/WWE and WCW World Title (including his one-day WCW World Heavyweight Title reign). He was also the only Canadian to win the World Heavyweight championship on Raw.
  • Benoit considers himself a big steak eater (Hard Knocks DVD).
  • Some experienced fans of pro wrestling (smarks) equate Benoit to Yuji Nagata, of Japanese pro wrestling. The idea is that both are competent, physically talented wrestlers, but both are usually used to put over other wrestlers/make other wrestlers look better than they actually are.
  • Benoit's lost tooth is usually credited to training or an accident early on in his wrestling career. This is not the case. In his younger days, Benoit would play-wrestle with his pet Rottweiler. One day, wrestling with his Rottweiler, Benoit was struck with the top of the Rottweiler's head beneath his chin and "out popped the tooth," as per Benoit's fathers words (see Disc 2, Hard Knocks DVD, click on the tooth icon in the second extras menu, it takes three right clicks to there).
  • Benoit's entrance theme music is "Whatever", performed by Canadian rock band Our Lady Peace. This song is a vocal version of his earlier WWE theme music, "Shooter."
