Chris Barrie (Admiral)


 

Admiral Chris Barrie AC RAN (born May 1945) was an Admiral in the Royal Australian Navy and the Chief of the Australian Defence Force from July 4, 1998 to July 3, 2002.

Born in Sydney, Barrie was educated at North Sydney Boys High School and joined the Royal Australian Naval College in 1961. In his early service he was involved in the confrontation between Indonesia and Malaysia, the Vietnam War, and work in the United Kingdom. Barrie has commanded two ships, HMAS Buccaneer and Stuart.
