Charulata
Charulata (The Lonely Wife) is a 1964 film by Bengali director Satyajit Ray, featuring Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee and Sailen Mukherjee. It is based on a story by Rabindranath Tagore, Nastanirh (The Broken Nest). Many, including Satyajit Ray himself, considered Charulata to be his greatest achievement. Ray famously said that it had the "least flaws" of all his movies. The character of Charulata also was Ray's favorite and he depicted her as the "archetypal Bengali woman". This movie belongs to the tradition of parallel cinema, and Ray was influenced by the French New Wave directors such as Fran?ois Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
