In addition, both adaptations deal with the major complaint about the character being so passive and having little to do in the factory tour beyond staying out of trouble. The 1971 film has Charlie doing an essential good deed that earns his inheritance of the factory while the 2005 version has Charlie refuse to abandon his family to receive the inheritance and instead facilitates Wonka's reconciliation with his own father.
