The Watts Band, originally known as Charles Wright & the Wright Sounds, derives its name from the Watts section of Los Angeles, California. They possess a sound that is, as they put it, "the middle ground between Otis Redding and James Brown" http://www.expressyourself.net/bio.html, a sound that Sly & the Family Stone would gravitate towards for their 1971 album There's a Riot Goin' On.
