Charles Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax


 

Charles Lindley Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax (7 January 183919 January 1934) married, Lady Agnes Courtenay, daughter of the 11th Earl of Devon. His father, Charles Wood, 1st Viscount Halifax, was a prominent Whig politician. His third son, E. F. L. Wood, 1st Earl of Halifax, was Viceroy of India and later Foreign Secretary in Neville Chamberlain's government.

A devout Catholic, Halifax spent his entire life as a lay-official in the British Catholic Church. Asides from this his only other achievement was his influence on his son Charles Wood who would later serve with various degrees of distinction in a number of government posts.
