Charles Howard, 3rd Earl of Carlisle


 

Charles Howard, 3rd Earl of Carlisle (c.1669 - 1 May, 1738) was an British statesman who was made a Privy Counsellor in 1701. He served as First Lord of the Treasury from 1701 to 1702, and again from 23 May to 10 October of 1715. A residence he commissioned, Castle Howard, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh and located in Yorkshire, England, is still occupied by his descendants. He had six children.
