Charles Carreon

Charles Carreon is a cyberlawyer licensed to practice in California and Oregon, with his practice based in Ashland, Oregon. Carreon has tried over sixty jury trials, and in recent years has achieved national recognition as a small town-lawyer who takes on Goliath-sized opponents over high-tech issues and acquires the prize.

Carreon is credited with masterminding Gary Kremen's November, 2000 victory in the celebrated "Sex.com" case, in which Carreon recovered the world's most valuable domain name from Stephen M. Cohen to Kremen, the rightful owner, and established for the first time in a court decision that Internet domain names are "property" in the eyes of the law.

In 2002, Carreon web-published the first edition of Charles' Primer of Online Media Law, a non-technical legal self-help manual for cyberbusiness owners.

On August 2, 2002, the cyberlawyer secured another notable win with a $300,000 jury verdict against the State of Oregon for negligent criminal history database management which eventually lead to the misidentification of Roger Benson, a California resident, as a three-time Oregon felon, causing Benson to suffer 43 days in the Siskiyou County, California jail. Currently, Carreon is suing the State of California on Benson's behalf under the California Information Practices Act.

Carreon is writing a non-fiction book about the Kremen vs. Cohen lawsuit called The Sex.Com Chronicles, which will be published by Lark Publications, LLC.

Carreon is an alumnus of UCLA Law School, class of 1986, and the younger son of Eloise and Conrad James Carreon, natives of Morenci and Tucson, Arizona, respectively.
