Channel 31

Channel 31 is the frequency reserved for community television stations across Australia. There are Channel 31 stations operating, or scheduled to begin operating, in most Australian states. Quite often content is obtained from universities within the state or community groups, although they also have content from professional media distributors (e.g. repeats of series not currently airing on the commercial networks). Most are incorporated as not-for-profit entities and operate on shoestring budgets.

Noteworthy Australian television personalities who started their television careers on Channel 31 include Rove McManus, Greg Tingle, and Hamish and Andy. Several Australian commercial television shows, such as Blokesworld, started on Channel 31.

Imparja Television, a private, fully commercial television company registered in the Northern Territory also broadcasts on Channel 31. Imparja is totally owned and controlled by Northern Territory and South Australian Aboriginal shareholders.
