Chain gang
- A chain gang is a group of prisoners chained together while they performed a menial task, such as chipping stone. Although chain gangs are rare today, they still exist. The Department of Corrections in some U.S. states shackle low-risk offenders together and use them to clear trash from the sides of major highways, among other useful public works-type projects.
- The Chain Gang is also what the wrestler John Cena calls his fans. Still in Sports Entertainment, the Chain Gang is considered by Smarks as the mark fan group of John Cena.
Chain gangs were long common in the U.S. South, and featured in a number of books and films set there, such as Cool Hand Luke and O Brother, Where Art Thou
