Central Medical Services
Central Medical Services is the English translation of the German Zentraler Sanitätsdienst which is the term for the medical services of the German armed forces. Medical professionals in the German forces are part of a central command common to all the various branches rather than commissioned or appointed to serve as a member of any one of them, in contrast to the American and British system in which medical personnel are assigned to the various branches (Army, Navy, etc.). This system is considered by the German government to be more efficient as the duties of the medical services personnel are seen as being as primarily medical rather than primarily military in nature.
