Center for Science in the Public Interest
The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit organization that focuses on issues relating to foods and the foodservices industry. It is a major critic of many fast food restaurant chains, and of soft drinks: both those sweetened with sugar, as contributing to obesity, and those sweetened with artificial non-caloric sweeteners, as being of dubious safety.

In 2005, Michael Jacobson, head of CSPI, proposed a warning label on all containers of soft drinks, to warn about the possible health risks of consuming these beverages on a daily basis. "It's the quintessential junk food. All calories, no nutrients.", says Jacobson. He proposes several warning labels including "Drinking soft drinks contributes to obesity and tooth decay". The American Beverage Association opposes such warnings.
