Celtic rock
Celtic rock is a genre of rock music which incorporates Celtic music, instrumentation and/or themes. The prototypical celtic rock group was the Irish group Horslips who in the early 1970s were the first group to use the term 'Celtic Rock' to describe their music. Horslips had all the elements of Celtic rock - traditional Irish/Celtic music and instrumentation, celtic themes and imagery, concept albums based on Irish mythology all powered by driving hard rock. Although Horslips were the first band to use the term Celtic rock and best represent what the genre means, there were other earlier bands who to a lesser extent could be considered to fall under the Celtic rock banner, most notably Sweeneys Men, Fairport Convention and Steeleye Span. Other mostly Irish bands that picked up on some of the Celtic rock influence of Horslips and dabbled with the genre but were not primarily belonging to the genre included Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore and Mama's Boys.

Another wave of music started by The Pogues combining Irish traditional and folk music with punk rock may also be considered to fall under the Celtic Rock genre but that is arguable since the music of The Pogues and their followers (including Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys) for the most part do not deal with Celtic themes or imagery.
