Cello Concerto No. 9 (Boccherini)
The Concerto Number 9 in B flat Major, written by Luigi Boccherini, is a cello concerto written in the either the late 1760s or early 1770s. Boccherini, a talented cellist, composed eleven concertos for his instruments. The Concerto No. 9, though written by Boccherini, was arranged by German cellist Friedrich Grützmacher in 1895, who altered the concerto so much that it bears only a tenuous resemblance to the original manuscript. Grützmacher merged Boccherini's original work with one of his own compositions, and then recomposed and reorchestrated all three movements, keeping only the basic theme that Boccherini had written. In addition, Grützmacher added his own style of shifts and harmony into the piece, and then imported a theme from one of Boccherini's cello sonatas. Despite this, the concerto number nine is still Boccherini's best known work.
