Cedric Popkin
Sergeant Cedric Bassett Popkin is considered the person most likely to have killed German ace Manfred von Richthofen — also known as the "Red Baron" — on April 21, 1918. Popkin was an anti-aircraft machine gunner with the 24th Machine Gun Company, Australian 4th Division, First Australian Imperial Force.

In 1918, the Royal Air Force gave the credit for shooting down Richthofen to a Canadian pilot, Captain Roy Brown. However there were claims in favour of Popkin and other Australian gunners at the time and more recent research has indicated that a ground-based machine gunner probably killed Richthofen.
