CBS Morning News
The CBS Morning News is the name historically given to a morning news program on CBS between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM ET. CBS's current morning news program is called The Early Show, which currently competes with NBC's The Today Show and ABC's Good Morning America. CBS's attempts at counterprogramming in this slot have never experienced the success of "Today" or "GMA".
Present
"The Early Show" premiered on November 1, 1999. Former "Today Show" host Bryant Gumbel hosted the show with Jane Clayson. In 2002, Gumbel left the show, followed soon after by Clayson. Julie Chen then took over as solo host of the show until October 2002, when Harry Smith, Hannah Storm, and Rene Syler joined Chen.

There is, however, still a "CBS Morning News," a broadcast anchored by Susan McGinnis which is similar to Early Today or World News This Morning.
