CBS Corporation


 

CBS Corporation will be the new name of the company currently known as Viacom Inc. following a corporate split which will see a new firm taking the Viacom name. Viacom's board approved the split on June 14, 2005.

CBS Corporation will include the CBS and UPN television networks, the Viacom television and radio stations, Paramount Television and other production assets, Simon & Schuster, Showtime Networks, and Paramount Parks. Leslie Moonves will be the company's CEO, while majority shareholder Sumner Redstone will serve as Chairman of the Board. Further details are included in an SEC Form S-4 filed by Viacom on October 5, 2005.

CBS Corporation was also the name of the parent of the CBS network prior to its acquisition by Viacom, and was previously known as Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Most of the prior company's assets will be part of the new CBS Corporation, although CMT and Spike TV will remain with Viacom.
