Catherine Tate is an English actress and comedienne, whose BBC2 solo series of 2004, The Catherine Tate Show, received wide acclaim.

Tate was born in London and made her television debut in 1994. She appeared in comedy series such as Big Train, Wild West and That Peter Kay Thing before being given her own show, which she co-wrote with Derren Litten.

In 2005, Tate appeared in West End production Some Girls, alongside Friends actor David Schwimmer. The play also starred Sara Powell (Silent Witness), Lesley Manville (Vera Drake) and Saffron Burrows (Troy). In an interview, Tate commented that she could not look Schwimmer in the eye during her time with him, leading to speculation that the pair did not get on. Tate immediately denied the rumours, explaining that she was joking about her attempts to act "cool" around the actor, who she described as, "a very funny, personable man, and easy to get along with".

After the second series of her show started airing, she had clearly become more popular in society, with many people starting to quote one of her famous catchphrases from the show: "Am I bovvered?"

She was quoted as saying "I love astrologer Jonathan Cainer (famous UK astrologer). I ring his phone line twice a week and he's always spot on with me and three million other Taureans. But I know it's MY soul he's looking into."
