A military court-martial seeks to find out the reason an officer of the British Army embezzled 100 pounds (about £5000 today) from the safe of his unit. He seeks to prove he took the money openly because of all the back pay owed him. The testimony of his wife, who is learning of his illicit liaison with a female officer, which is causing their marriage to become strained, may help or convict him. Plot twists and complications abound, including another witness who might prove his innocence, his commanding officer who has become his bitter enemy, accuser, and the prosecution's main witness.
